The unthinkable has happened. Pinterest is down (at least for some users). As in broken. As in not updating with any new pins. As in not able to provide the Pinterest fix that so many of us have come to rely upon.

Rest assured, I’m certain that Pinterest’s engineers are hard at work to fix the problem, but in the meanwhile, what’s a Pinterest addict to do? How about doing some of those Pinterest projects you keep pinning?!!?

So for this weekend’s DIY project, dust off an old pin or two and GET to WORK! If you don’t have any pins of your own, here’s a few of ours that we still need to try!

Contrary to what the calendar might say, summer has arrived in south Texas. Listening to the weather on the radio only serves to remind a soul just how hot Houston can get . . . even in May.

But with the heat comes beautiful days of sunshine. And for that, I’m extremely grateful.

Nothing screams summer more than snow-cones. If you’ve never had one of these adorable and delectable delights, you are truly missing out! Yes, it’s hardly healthy (it’s basically sugar water), but they are wonderful!

When I saw these adorable snow cone CUPCAKES on my favorite baking blog, Bakerella, I knew we had to share them with our friends at DP! Not only are they cute, but they are perfect for the upcoming Memorial Day! So, take some time over this long weekend and make a batch of these.

Also, be sure to take a few moments to reflect with gratitude on those who have sacrificed so much that each of us might live free.

Happy Memorial Day!

I hate shredding papers. In fact, to borrow a quote from Erma Bombeck, “My second favorite household chore is <del datetime="2012-05-23T20:36:14+00:00">ironing</del> shredding. My first being hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.”

I know, I know, shredding is important, if not imperative. But before you start reminding me of the dangers of not disposing of sensitive documents correctly, rest assured, I do shred. But that doesn’t mean I have to like it.

When I saw this DIY idea online, I wanted to serve notice to my shredder: your days are numbered. Nothing would delight me more than to grab a big whopping stack of credit card applications, turn them into a firelog, and kick back my heels with a skewer and a bag of marshmallows.

Here’s how to do it, courtesy of The Simple Dollar:

Use all of your documents as the starting fuel for a large bonfire. However, it’s not a great idea to just take all of your documents and just burn them. Instead, make a giant burnable cube out of them.

One better way to do that is to rip the documents into smaller pieces and fill up a tub about halfway with the documents. Then, add water to the documents until the bin is mostly full. Let it sit for twelve hours or so, then drain off as much water as you can (and squeeze out even more water). You’ll be left with a giant ball of mushy pulp. Put this ball somewhere dry for a few weeks and you’ll have a very large chunk of very flammable paper that will burn quite well. (If you want to get it really dry, stick the mostly-dry chunk in your oven at about 250 F for a while, which will cause the water to evaporate out of it while leaving the dry paper behind.) This is wonderful firestarter for a large bonfire.

Give it a try and let us know if this saves you some time and if you are like me, some head banging. And while you are at it, pass me a hot dog for my skewer.

Ahhhh, the weekend is here! It’s time to enjoy a few days of hard-earned rest!

Although we design all week long at DuoParadigms, we often like to spend our free time away from work on the weekends still designing and working on fun personal projects for ourselves, family, and friends. For us, designing also helps us relax . . . especially when we can do it without a deadline!

This weekend’s DIY project share combines both a love for crafts and literature. Aren’t these roses beautiful?

I'm terrible when it comes to forgetting things when I travel. I normally spend part of the travel time, whether in the car or on a plane, trying to remember what I've inevitably forgotten.

I’m terrible when it comes to forgetting things when I travel. I normally spend part of the travel time, whether in the car or on a plane, trying to remember what I’ve inevitably forgotten. I rarely leave the same thing twice, so it’s always **fun** to figure out what I’ve left behind by accident once I unpack.

However, there’s one thing I never forget. . . my pillow.

I adore my pillow. It’s a well-used, well-worn, beloved memory foam pillow. We’re attached. At the head. Almost literally.

Because it’s memory foam, it is quite portable and can be squeezed into my carry-on when I fly. It’s easy. It’s convenient. And, ahem, it can be dangerous.

Like the time it “exploded” out at the TSA at the airport. (That was their word choice, not mine. Guess I forgot to warn them when they were rooting around, confiscating my can of buttercream frosting. But that’s another story.)

Where was I? Oh yes, the pillow.

Because I never leave home without it, my pillow is often my final line of defense against forgetting possessions. It’s been home to lots of odds and ends, things I’ve shoved in at the last minute.

So when I saw this adorable pillowcase idea from Amazing Mae, I knew this would be perfect for me to share with our readers as a weekend DIY project! I love the big initial!

Take some time to make one for a special child in your life.

Or for that absent-minded friend who needs extra pockets on her pillow just so she can shove in her last minute stuff!

I discovered something new last year about gardening. When you mix frequent travel, a drought, raccoons, possums, armadillos, and skunks together with a vegetable garden, you normally don’t get a bumper crop.

In my case, I probably would have settled for even a mediocre crop. Instead, I got a handful of tomatoes and a couple of tiny bell peppers for all my months of trouble.

So this year, I gave up on the vegetable plants and bought a few things that critters don’t enjoy eating . . . like lilies and a hydrangea.

Though, I might just try my hand at a different type of gardening. Indoor herb gardening on a wall!

This weekend’s DIY share from Not Just a House Wife is simply brilliant. Imagine having a fresh herb garden always in your kitchen, just waiting for you to use!

Have a great weekend!

[WARNING: This weekend's DIY project is potentially hazardous to your waistline. But I'll have a feeling it'll be worth every extra mile on your treadmill next week.]

Okay, with that disclaimer aside, let me introduce you to this weekend’s culinary adventure and it’s a mouthful in more ways than one.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Devil’s Food Cake Cheesecake.

Let me say that again . . .

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Devil’s Food Cake Cheesecake

Oh. just. bury. me. now.

Literally.

I counted. I’m allergic to seven of the ingredients and that’s just in the cake part. Someone make this dessert and save me a teaspoon full, okay?

Ever since I saw it on Pinterest (oh, yes, those famous five words we all know and love), I’ve been dying to share it with each of you. This cake looks and sounds involved. VERY involved. Which is why I recommend it for a Saturday project. Eat protein all morning . . . and all night. You’ll need it to offset all those carbs!

Have a great weekend, all!

(Oh, and don’t forget to save me a teaspoon.)
