Any book can be read once. But the mark of a good book is when you want to read it twice.

I own a lot of books. The majority of them are physical copies, but I also have a collection of nearly 100 e-books as well. Many of my books I have read only once and a few of them I never even finished for one reason or another.

But some of them have become cherished favorites. These are the books I can pick up year after year and still enjoy as if it were the first time I cracked open the pages.

Hinds Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard

This classic belongs on every Christian’s bookshelf. Written as an allegory, the journey of Much-Afraid is inspiring and challenging. I first read this book many years ago, but its characters have stayed with me. I’ve seen much of myself in Much Afraid, Craven Fear, Pride, and others, and most importantly after a reading of it, I find myself longing more and more to know The Shepherd deeper.

Oswald Chambers: Abandoned to God: The Life Story of the Author of My Utmost for His Highest by David MacCasland

Many people are familiar with My Utmost for His Highest, but not many know the real story of the man behind the book, Oswald Chambers. David MacCasland is one of my favorite biographers and I have very much enjoyed his work on Chambers. Chambers spent a short time here on earth, but we are still being blessed by the legacy he left behind.

In His Steps by Charles Sheldon

This book is another wonderful classic read. Have you ever stopped to consider what your life would look like if you asked yourself “What Would Jesus Do” before every decision? This novel tells the story of a town that did just that.

The Shaping of a Christian Family by Elisabeth Elliot

A couple of Elisabeth Elliot books could make this list, but this one is my favorite. Written in an easy-to-read style, the author tells the story of how she was raised—and of the importance of a Godly legacy. One day, I hope to have a chance to practice some of these same principles with my family.

Spiritual Leadership by J. Oswald Sanders

This is my favorite book on leadership. I first studied this book when I was at Eagle Springs in 2003 and since then, I’ve read the whole book or portions several times. Not only have I read this book multiple times, but I probably have three or four extra copies at home, as when I find a good book I love, I simply have to give it away!

So Long Insecurity by Beth Moore

I’m often hesitant to label a book as a life changer, but So Long Insecurity has been just that in my life. God led me to it during a particularly difficult pruning season in my life, and it proved to be a catalyst for some much-needed course correction. Overcoming insecurity is a lifelong process, so I frequently find myself back in the pages of this book.

Secrets of Heathersleigh Hall Series by Michael Phillips

I own over 40 Michael Phillips books, but the Secrets of Heathersleigh Hall series is my all-time favorite. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, and I’ve picked up my Bible while reading these four books. If you love historical fiction and desire to be challenged in your walk with the Lord, start reading this series.
